Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC), a subsidiary of Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) today announced the opening of the first Malaysian restaurant in Jeddah. FIC has appointed Felda D’Saji Sdn Bhd (D’Saji) to operate Felda D’Saji Malaysian & Asian Cuisine Restaurant which is located in Tahlia Street, the city’s most exclusive commercial hub.
The 112-seater restaurant is a great addition to Jeddah’s diversified food scene. Guests can sample a variety of Asian cuisines from the buffet line and cooking stations which among the highlights are Malaysian favourites such as roti canai and satay.
FELDA Chairman, Y. B. Tan Sri Datuk Sri Utama Haji Mohd. Isa Bin Dato’ Haji Abdul Samad in his opening speech mentioned that the open kitchen concept is adopted to create an atmosphere that infuses the rich Malaysian cultures and to enhance customers’ sensory experience through the divine smells of Asian spices and ingredients, and not forgetting the artistry of cooking.
On the debut of the first Malaysian restaurant in Jeddah, Isa said, “It is a good opportunity for both Malaysia and Saudi Arabia to strengthen the relations through enhanced intercultural engagements. It would contribute to greater cultural exchanges and promote better understanding between both countries in various aspects, benefitting both parties in a multitude of ways”.
FIC and D’Saji are not only aiming to capture Malaysian and Asian markets, but they are also leveraging on Jeddah’s location as the gateway to Saudi Arabia. Each year, Jeddah receives high number of visitors from all over the world to perform the pilgrimage and with its cosmopolitan ambience; it is fast becoming one of travellers’ favourite destinations. Alongside the effort to attract foreign visitors to the restaurant, Jeddah’s local community remain as the primary focus. Influenced by their vibrant surrounding, they are open towards different palates and tastes.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Isa with the attendance of H.E Consulate General of Malaysia in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Hj Khalid Abbasi, CEO of FIC, Mr. Mohd Zaid Abdul Jalil, the Felda Management, Malaysian expatriates and agencies in Jeddah as well as other distinguished guests.
Besides the restaurant, D’Saji is managing Al- Safwa D’Saji Food Court in Makkah. The two eateries are run by D’Saji Ventures Sdn.Bhd, another subsidiary of Felda D’Saji.
A name to be acknowledged in the circle of F&B, D’Saji has gone through a series of significant evolvement. It started as a catering business serving FELDA cafeteria and student hostels. The company has then established its name by being the sole catering provider for Dewan Merak Kayangan and Dewan Perdana Felda, located in the heart-city of Kuala Lumpur.
FIC has appointed D’Saji to operate the Malaysian Cuisine and Halal Café at the Grand Plaza Apartment in Bayswater, London. With its excellent track record, D’Saji has also collaborates with Kuala Lumpur City Hall to turn the upcoming D’Saji Titiwangsa Restaurant into another prominent icon of the city.
